For clients
Hiring an expert witness
Everything attorneys and law firms ask us most often about working with Patexia Connect.
How fast can I expect expert candidates?
We typically deliver 2+ vetted candidates within 24–72 hours. Every profile is still reviewed and contacted by a sourcing professional before reaching you.
How do you verify expert qualifications?
Before sending any profile, we check: courtroom and deposition experience; success rate in relevant case types; prior testimony and industry background; match between CV and actual track record; and availability to engage.
How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Before sending a profile, we check opposing party ties, past firm and case involvement, and existing engagements or industry overlap. You only see clean candidates.
Can I interview the expert before deciding?
Yes — every candidate we send is ready for an initial call. We'll coordinate logistics and prep the expert so you can focus purely on evaluating fit.
Is there a cost for the search itself?
No cost until you engage an expert. Search and shortlisting are always free — whether you're exploring early or need someone immediately.
What if the expert isn't a match?
Let us know and we'll dig deeper or switch direction at no extra charge. Connect is not a static directory — we tailor every search to your case specifics.
Can I filter by prior experience against a specific company or judge?
Yes. We can filter by litigation history, role (plaintiff/defendant), venue, and even judge if it's relevant. Just tell us what matters for your case.
I don't know exactly what kind of expert I need yet — can you help?
Absolutely. We can start with the patent, case, or tech field and suggest profiles that cover your bases. We're used to shaping searches with attorneys along the way.
What if I've tried another firm and it didn't work out?
That's common. We're not a CV bank — we do expert witness search backed by litigation data and technology. Happy to take another look and see what’s still possible.
For professionals
Working with Patexia Connect
Two tracks, and they are genuinely different work. Expert witness engagements are testimony and technical opinion work. Contract attorney engagements are legal work under an engaging firm’s supervision. Pick the one that describes you.
Expert witnesses
Testimony, declarations and technical opinion work.
Who is eligible to join the expert network?
We accept subject matter experts from academia, industry, and government with deep technical expertise in their field. Prior expert witness experience is a plus but not required for first-time engagements.
How are experts matched to cases?
Our data-driven platform uses patent records, litigation history, and IPC codes to find the best technical fit. We also manually review your background against case requirements before reaching out.
How does payment work?
Experts are compensated at an agreed hourly rate. Patexia handles all invoicing and payment collection from the engaging firm — you invoice us and we pay promptly.
What are my obligations once I join?
Joining the network has no commitment. We reach out when there's a relevant opportunity. You're always free to decline any engagement.
How is my confidentiality protected?
We don't reach out to experts without first vetting them for relevance and conflicts. Your identity is never disclosed to a law firm without your explicit consent, and NDAs are handled before any case details are shared.
Contract attorneys
Document review, overflow litigation support, secondments, diligence — not testimony.
Is this expert-witness work?
No. Contract attorney engagements are legal work under an engaging firm’s supervision. Testimony, declarations and technical opinion work sit on our expert-witness track, which has its own board and its own funnel.
Which bar admissions do you need?
Tell us every jurisdiction you are admitted in and your standing in each. Matters differ: some need a specific state, some only need an attorney in good standing somewhere, and remote review often has a wider range.
How is it paid?
An agreed hourly rate for the engagement. You submit a timesheet on the platform, we invoice the engaging firm, and you are paid on our standard terms — the same mechanics our expert engagements run on.
Do you handle the conflicts check?
We run it before an engagement is offered, covering your current and former firms and the matters you have touched. You will be asked to confirm it — a conflicts check is only as good as what it is told.
What about malpractice insurance and supervision?
These are set per engagement by the engaging firm, and we will tell you the arrangement for a specific matter before you accept it. We are deliberately not publishing a blanket answer here, because the honest one varies by firm.
Is there a commitment to joining?
No. Joining puts you in the pool. We contact you when a matter matches your admissions and practice areas, and you decide whether to take it.
